My seat in the staffroom is very near the phone and usually when students need to call home, they will probably asked for my permission. And today, justnow, I came across the question that made me speechless so quite some time!

Student: Teacher, may I use the phone?

Me: OK.

Student: *dials*

Student: Teacher……. Erm…. How to use the phone?

Me: *Thinking he probably made STD calls that’s why the dial tone is different since the phone is locked*

Me: You’re calling mobile phone or house phone? This phone cannot call mobile one.

Student: House…. *still looking puzzled*

Me: Huh! What do you mean “How to use the phone?” …. Just listen if there’s a ringing tone or not and wait for people to pick up lah…

Student": *listens* Oh yes yes, have already…

Me: *face palm*

Then it hit me… Most people doesn’t own a house phone now because it’s not necessary anymore. They can just use their mobile phone for calling, texting and even connect to the internet. Hence our younger generation not knowing how to use the telephone.

Kids these days are so used to smartphones … And because there’s no “CALL” button in the telephone hence they get confused. Which reminds me of this 9gag post too..

Sigh… Generation gap really….

So I was invited by Rachael to attend the Nyonya party and boy oh boy, I wasn’t disappointed at all!

Stepping into Fun Bee Park, I immediately was attracted by the accessories, shoes and everything that was displayed! The details on it just blew me away! I mean…. I was told that some of the pieces are like a hundred years old (or more) and they are so beautiful!

 

 

And it was also my very first time to take a close look at Peranakan beaded slippers, Kasut Manek.

I doubt any youngsters these days are able to produce this kind of craft. No more patience and not to mention, females nowadays are no longer “Yiu-Siu” (in hokkien) or… you know, 斯文or anything near that. You ask us sit down and stitch this the whole day, I cry let you see ah! Mata also juling till don’t know where…

Though I don’t quite understand why the Lotus Shoes were there too…

It’s so different from those I tried before. The texture, the fish meat inside… Great to eat with rice (which I nearly asked for a second plate of rice to eat with all those yummy food)

Trust me, this is not much. Definitely can wipe the plate clean I tell you! (And probably will ask for more too!)

It was my first time seeing her. She’s really funny, outgoing and passionate. Trust me, I took like 5 photos and they are all blurry because Cecelia just kept moving around and laughing.

A big big big thank you to Fun Bee Park for organizing such awesome event and also inviting me over. It was my very first time trying Nyonya food and man, I’m now happy and worry lor. Happy because my very first nyonya dining experience is like.. off the charts. Worry because, the bar is raised so high now so am I going to find such great nyonya food in the future!

Honestly speaking, being a kampung girl from the teeny-weeny town… I’ve never tried NYONYA CUISINE and the only time when I learned about Nyonya food is when the TV is showing those foodie programmes… or… from the famous Singapore drama serial, Little Nyonya 小娘惹. FML.

But nevermind, Fun Bee Park has invited Pearly Kee from Penang, famous author and Nyonya cuisine expert who is a fifth generation nyonya herself, to teach and demonstrate on how to cook Nyonya dishes from her internationally renowned cookbook, “A Nyonya Inheritance” .

 

From the 5th to 7th July 2013, various workshops, tasting session and the one that excites me the most, NYONYA NIGHT, with registration ranging from $40 – $80 will be held and those who are interested, please call Fun Bee Park at 245 7729 or visit the centre at Unit 6&7, Ground Floor, Sempurna Complex, Jalan Batu Bersurat. You know the proverb, Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime. In this case it will be, Go to the restaurant and you eat it for a meal. Learn how to cook and you can eat whenever you want!

Not only that the meals will be provided, there’s also recipes to be given out and take note, each workshop is only limited to 8 people only. So if you are interested in the cooking workshop, you better call them right up and book yourself a slot.

Now let’s talk about the Nyonya Night. The special one-night-only Nyonya Night will showcase the Nyonya lifestyle and fashion which will give the Bruneian community a good opportunity to gather inspiration for a unique Hari Raya outfit. (Be unique!)

Limited Nyonya fashion accessories, perfect to make a house visitation outfit stand out, will be displayed too.

Sorry I have to split this Disneyland post into two because I took TOO MANY photos! You know lah, sakai bah first time to Disneyland had that everything also must-take-photo-syndrome. Hehhehehehee.

And, my buddies said I’m doing it the wrong way, tabalik (reverse) already. When I complained to them saying the parade in Universal Studios Singapore was sooooooooooooooooo disappointing, they’re like… you went to Korea’s Everland (which their summer splash parade was awesome like what!) and also Tokyo Disneyland…. how to top that? Well, I still have a lot of theme parks to explore so stay tune~

I really really love how disciplined Japanese are! We were all required to sit down and not allowed to stand up or even kneeling because that will blocked the views of the people behind us. Unlike in USS, don’t know why people so kiasu all stood up and went front front, scare die rugi cannot see like that (which… the parade would pass us by anyway…….)

Really loh, my expectation went up really high after Tokyo Disneyland. I kept complain to Bobby that, “Why no people jaga one… see, the parade is starting and no one chase those stupid people away one (the people who still die die walked slowly on the road which is already closed for the parade to pass)”

Umbrella is a MUST for the month of June. It’s rainy season, and if it’s not raining… it’s super hot!

Okay, pedophile moment again…..

Took this picture of the little girl she was super obedient lah. She had rubbish that she accidentally dropped near SL and insisted to pick it up herself and disposed them in the bin. Haih, when can our kids in Brunei be like that leh har?

Note: It’s not that the teachers or schools don’t teach them… but most of the time, it’s their stupid parents who ask the kids the throw rubbish outside their car’s window! And same goes to spitting! And couple of times when I went jogging at the park, there were families having picnic and would just leave the rubbish behind because “Biar ia… ada orang buang tu….”

It’s the adults who need to be re-educated really!

Fastpass helps you to “queue” and inform you what time if your turn. After getting the fastpass (which you have to use your disney passport and scan it with the fastpass machine), you just need to return to the ride at the stated time.
