Ristorante Buon Gusto, Brunei

To satisfy our cravings for Italian, we chose Buon Gusto for lunch the other day.

It was my second visit to this restaurant and I remembered I quite liked it during my first visit.
Affordable and pretty good food. Love their desserts especially!

We ordered….

Soup of the day – Cream of Carrot. Yum!

Pizza with the name Ultimate Buon Gusto , cheese overload I kid you not!

Fettuccine Ghiotta

Tiramisu

I don’t usually order tiramisu because it’s usually disappointing. But this is really really good!

Chocolate Pudding. Not bad, but will be way better if put in oven another 20 more seconds. It’s too watery.
Sad….

And guess how much is the total bill?

  • A soup
  • Pasta
  • Pizza
  • 2 desserts

A grand total of BND24.50!!!!!

What a steal right!!!

Not sure if it’s because that there’s a promo or what because I didn’t notice but my happy husband is definitely very pleased with the price.

Misato Teppan-Grill

Misato – Teppan Grill
Unit 203, Mabohai Shopping Complex, Simpang 99, Jalan Kebangsann Lama,
Bandar Seri Begawan BA1111
Tel/Fax: +673 2241331
Opening hours: 11 AM – 10 PM (Mon – Sun)

Le husband and I decided to give Misato Teppan-grill a try because it’s near to his working place and there’s definitely no traffic to beat and also, less crowded.

Located at the second floor of Mabohai Shopping Complex, just next to Savy.

From the outside of the restaurant, you can tell that it’s pretty big and spacious inside. Walking in, the restaurant is separated into two main area, the main teppanyaki area where you sit and watch the chef in action, and the tatami area at the window side. They also have 2 private rooms for bigger group.

The main teppanyaki area

The tatami area

The menu.

I’m guessing the official one is not ready yet because the menu handed to us is just printed papers in a folder.

To save our brain cells from over-thinking what to eat, we just picked the Tokyo set which is made for 2 person. We chose lamb and salmon.

Soup and green tea.

Our food awaiting to be cooked.

I told Bobby I like it when I can see the chef cooking in front of me because I’m very impatient and if I have to sit there and wait for my food while not knowing if my food is being prepared already, I feel I wait very very long. So ya, I like it when I get to see my food being prepared because I know it’s fresh and definitely cooked properly.

And one more thing, there wasn’t much smoke while cooking and also the smell of food didn’t really cling on to our bodies when we left the place. Yay to that!

Agedashi tofu and ebi furai that comes with the set.

Salmon

And lamb

Salmon and lamb.

HAHHAHAHAHHAHAHA. Captain Obvious approved.

Mixed vegetables.

It was a pretty good meal, balanced and something different. Apart from teppanyaki, they also served ala carte food like assorted sushis and tempuras. We’re pretty eager to try their desserts but the one we wanted was not available. Of course, if I have to compare the menu from their KB branch, Misato Teppan-Grill seems like they serve less food but hey, if you’re not keen in teppanyaki, might as well go to their Kiulap or KB branch right?

I cooked these!

Nahhhh.. Just kidding.

There's only four of us eating but Theen cooked 6 dishes!

Crispy salt and pepper sotong
Kangkung belachan
Steamed fish
Steamed prawns
Drunken prawns
Tom yum fish

And we wiped all the dishes clean!

Too bad there's no ketam because that's like our ultimate cravings!

Paddington House of Pancakes, Brunei

I was already very excited when I first see the photos of those pancakes shown in someone’s IG and boy oh boy, that was a lot of eager anticipation going on.

My first visit to PHOP was on the 4th day of their soft opening and I had already lowered down my expectation in a big scale due to the reviews I read. Some said it was good, real good, but at the same time, a lot had complained about the waiting time as well as the price.

Entering the restaurant, I was greeted by Denise who made it clear that the waiting time will probably be around an hour (YES! 60 MINUTES) and asked if we’re okay to wait. At the same time, she passed us the menu to flip through to make it easy for us to decide if we want to wait.
Of course, we waited, in hope that it’s gonna be all worth it.

Staffs sorting out the orders in front of the kitchen

Kids Corner

 Full Monty
Don’t you like it when you get to poke the yolk and see all that runny goodness glides down the plate and all over the bacon, sausages and baked beans.

 Do not underestimate the portion.
It was actually super filling!

Buckle Berry - Blueberry pancakes, beef bacon and scrambled egg with tomatoes, mushrooms and onions.

Iced Black Coffee – $4.50 and Orange Blossom – $4.00

Wedges and Fries – $8.50
Can’t decide whether you want fries or wedges, WHY NOT BOTH?!
I love love love this! (We over ordered and I had to tapao this and sneaked in to the cinema, had a great time munching them when I saw watching the awesome Pacific Rim)

Mexico Pannekoek – $13.00 , can’t think of any other words apart from – crispy pizza?
Good for sharing with friends. (Will be better if they can slice it up before serving. Hehehhehe)

Nice crepe. (Pronounce as “Neese”, not “nai-se” ya)
And this nice crepe is really nice!

Chicken fillet, prawns, bacons, mushrooms and THAT IS NOT POTATOES, ITS PINEAPPLE CUBES!

As you can see, for now we had only ordered the savory items from the menu. Next, the sweet one! I’m guessing I still need to make a few more trips there to try out everything from the menu!

If you ask for my opinion, if you want to have a quick meal... this is definitely not the place to be as those pancakes are made to order. Just go there when you're not in a rush, sit back, relax and enjoy the meal.

The Unforgettable Nyonya Party!

Fun Bee Park
Contact number: 2457729
Location of the center: Block A, Unit 6&7 Ground Floor, Sempurna Complex, Jalan Batu Bersurat.
Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/funbeepark
Website: http://funbeepark.com/

So I was invited by Rachael to attend the Nyonya party and boy oh boy, I wasn’t disappointed at all!

Stepping into Fun Bee Park, I immediately was attracted by the accessories, shoes and everything that was displayed! The details on it just blew me away! I mean…. I was told that some of the pieces are like a hundred years old (or more) and they are so beautiful!

And it was also my very first time to take a close look at Peranakan beaded slippers, Kasut Manek.

I doubt any youngsters these days are able to produce this kind of craft. No more patience and not to mention, females nowadays are no longer “Yiu-Siu” (in hokkien) or… you know, 斯文or anything near that. You ask us sit down and stitch this the whole day, I cry let you see ah! Mata also juling till don’t know where…

Though I don’t quite understand why the Lotus Shoes were there too…

Thanis helping Pearly on the plating. Very serious man at work.

Okay, here’s one not so serious…

Cecelia introducing all the wonderful people who made the event successful.

Pearly giving a short briefing on the food that’s gonna be served and a little on history of Peranakan culture.

First dish, Sambal Goreng!

THIS.IS.FREAKING.GOOD!

The prawns, the sauce and the cashew nuts… Had those cashew nuts to the very last piece!
No, it’s not spicy at all.

Curry Kapitan.

Kerabu Kay

The famous blue rice. So pretty!

Lor Bak (Quite similar to 5 spices spring roll)

Otak-otak

It’s so different from those I tried before. The texture, the fish meat inside… Great to eat with rice (which I nearly asked for a second plate of rice to eat with all those yummy food)

Trust me, this is not much. Definitely can wipe the plate clean I tell you! (And probably will ask for more too!)

The dragonfruit + frog egg drink, so refreshing.

I totally dig this! And very the beh paiseh asked for the second bowl and tapao somemore for Bobby….

*hides in a corner*

Red bean and black glutinous rice dessert with coconut cream.

 IMG_7184
The gem inside, LONGAN!

The creamy and savory coconut cream was so great to eat with the usually overly-sweet dessert (by other restaurants.. not Pearly’s)

Keuh Sapit

Bomb something?

Cecelia demonstrating the right way of wearing a sarong.

It was my first time seeing her. She’s really funny, outgoing and passionate. Trust me, I took like 5 photos and they are all blurry because Cecelia just kept moving around and laughing.

And after a night of busy cooking those beautiful dishes, here’s Pearly talking with the guests again. Sorry I wasn’t concentrating because I was still gobbling down the dessert…

Here’s a photo of me with Pearly~

Signing her cookbook for her fans.

This cutie pie is just too cute!!!!!!

A big big big thank you to Fun Bee Park for organizing such awesome event and also inviting me over. It was my very first time trying Nyonya food and man, I’m now happy and worry lor. Happy because my very first nyonya dining experience is like.. off the charts. Worry because, the bar is raised so high now so am I going to find such great nyonya food in the future!
